Friday the 13th part VI: Jason Lives
release year: 1986
genre: horror
viewing setting: home Bluray 2/17/26 and 12/21/22 and several more times from the 1990s and 1980s
synopsis: Jason comes back to life as an unstoppable zombie killer; mayhem ensues.
impressions: And here we are...one of the most fun entries in the series. The movie wastes little time setting things up: Jason's dead corpse is struck by lightning and reanimated...and it's on. This newfound invulnerability is evident in the way Jason walks and acts - no more worrying about whether a knife wound or gunshot will kill him. Nope. Those days are over, my friends. Now he's an unstoppable juggernaut that will kill anything in his way. Other noteworthy elements: random dog eating random roadkill...the return of Tommy Jarvis, this time as a hero (albeit a stupid one at times)...subtle humorous lines and scenes...Jason ignoring the little kids in their cabins...multiple instances of victim stupidity...complete lack of nudity in entire movie. I also need to mention that this one is full of little humorous bits and lines and references, which makes it more entertaining.
body count: 18 confirmed.
notable kills: triple decapitation with machete, head pushed through RV wall, head torn off, body bent in half
acting: Thom Mathews is Tommy Jarvis, main suspect/hero (and the events of this movie are technically all his fault.) Jennifer Cooke is the girl who takes a liking to him, believes him, and helps him. David Kagen is her father, the sheriff.
final word: A real turning point in the series, as they stopped ignoring all the damage Jason soaked up and simply rendered him immune to it.
