Goodfellas

release year: 1990
genre: drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 5/10/23

synopsis: A young kid gets involved with organized crime, and keeps as it as he gets older.

impressions: Somehow, I had never watched this, but after the recent Godfather viewings, it seemed time. This was great - entertaining and realistic. As always happens in crime dramas, people never know when to stop; they should be set for life, but they just have to commit more crimes...which eventually leads to their downfall. Spoiler alert: it plays out that way again, here.

acting: Ray Liotta is the young man who's got no other goal in life aside from being a gangster, and eventually lets the lifestyle get the better of him. Lorraine Bracco is his wife, who gradually slips into the same problems with him. Robert De Niro is his associate, who's calm whether he's planning a heist or planning a murder. Joe Pesci is another friend, who's a loose cannon with a temper. Paul Sorvino is the older mob boss who gets them all their start.

final word: Well-paced, entertaining crime drama that really shows what this life can be like.
