The Gunman

Terrier: "I hope you don't mind, I gave him your address. He's coming out here and we're gonna go hunting."
Felix: "Hunting? For what?"
Terrier: "Whatever's in season. I just need to shoot something."

release year: 2015
genre: action/drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 7/5/15

synopsis: A mercenary gets betrayed and is forced to abandon his past and the woman he loves...until someone comes after him, which pisses him off.

impressions: There was plenty of action, and Sean Penn is in great shape here. However, the plot didn't make sense to me at times. If you love someone and staying with them puts them in danger, you don't just disappear. At least, I wouldn't have. I'd have found a way to make it work, or something...not just quietly give up. It didn't sit right with me. But then again, I'm not an ex-soldier-turned-mercenary with great experience and deadly skills, so what do I know?

acting: Sean Penn is buff and competent in an action role. Javier Bardem is one bad guy, and I think he overacts (and is overrated as an actor, actually.) Ray Winstone is Sean's old friend who helps him. Jasmine Trinca is his ex who ended up with the wrong guy.

final word: Violent, cool action with plenty of plot twists.
