Halloween Ends

release year: 2022
genre: horror
viewing setting: home streaming theater 10/14/22 (opening night)

synopsis: Four years after his last killing spree, Michael Myers is nowhere to be found...until fate puts a young, troubled kid into his path.

impressions: Well, this was different. I have to be careful not to spoil anything, so I'll just say that some new angles were explored here. This movie wasn't as much about the killer and his favorite victim as it was about the evil inside some people, and the way it gets stronger due to the actions of other people. Michael finally does activate near the midway point, but at times he's showing his age. He does seem to have bursts of strength when he's fired up about something, but they aren't sustained like in the past. Another thing I noticed: this movie is full of unpleasant, nasty people (who pretty much all get what they deserve, one way or another.)

acting: Jamie Lee Curtis shifts from attack mode back to normal mode for this one, and has moved on...until her lethal nemesis reappears. Andi Matichak returns as her grandaughter, who has a chance to strike out on her own and have a life. Rohan Campbell does a pretty good job as a new character who's walking the line between regular guy and killer. Will Patton and Kyle Richards reprise their previous roles, but don't have much to do here.

final word: Fitting, if odd, conclusion to this recent trilogy; I think it's time this series was laid to rest once and for all.
