Hannibal Rising

release year: 2007
genre: psychological thriller
viewing setting: home DVD, 8/25/07

synopsis: This is a history of future psychopath and cannibal Hannibal Lecter's younger years.

impressions: If you ever wanted to know how a normal little boy eventually becomes a feared killer, this is one movie you can watch (another would be the 2007 version of Halloween.) Little Hannibal runs into bad luck when he's 8 years old, and spends much of his later teenage years finding and getting revenge on those who did him and his sister wrong. He's a maniac, but it's very controlled and thought out.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A boy being forced to cannibalize.

acting: Gaspard Ulliel does a great job as young Lecter. Gong Li is his rich aunt, who tries and fails to save him from his destiny. Rhys Ifans is the main bad guy.

final word: Good prequel, in the vein of the "main" Hannibal Lecter movies.
