Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

release year: 2005
genre: fantasy
viewing setting: home Bluray 10/1/23 and home DVD 7/18/09 and theater 11/15/05

synopsis: Young wizard Harry Potter and friends witness the Tri-Wizard Tournament as it comes to their school, but behind the scenes, the evil Voldemort is continuing his return.

impressions: All in all, another a good adaptation of a book in the series. Obviously, not everything will make the transition from page to film, but the stuff that was cut out seemed fairly minor. Continuing the trend, this one was even darker than the last, and featured a couple of deaths. There were also some new characters, plus plenty of action, and dragons! And for the first time, other schools of magic were shown.

things to watch for: Harry's fight with the fire-breathing dragon.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A child ghost that inhabits the bathtub room and tries to peek beyond the bubbles. That was just weird.

acting: As usual, I won't talk much about any of the returning actors' performances in this one; suffice it to say that the kids are still getting older. Major new characters include Brendan Gleeson as a crazy wizard, Miranda Richardson as a nosy and irritating reporter, Robert Pattinson as one of the champions contending for the prize, and Ralph Fiennes as the ever-stronger Lord Voldemort.

final word: Another winner; we're 4/7 of the way there now.
