He Never Died

Cara: "Oh my God, she needs an ambulance!"
Jack: (glancing back at the building full of people he just decimated) "No. She'd be the last priority if they came here."

release year: 2015
genre: dark action/drama
viewing setting: home streaming 10/15/23

synopsis: Grizzled middle-aged loner Jack just wants to be left alone to do his boring daily routine...until some mobsters mess with him and find out he's much more than he appears.

impressions: This movie features an immortal antihero as its protagonist, and not all of the "why" gets explained. Aside from his simple way of saying and doing things (which is quite entertaining) the highlight here is all the violent action. It's brutal yet flippant at times. There's also the backstory, or what we get of it, which is fairly interesting and ties back to various past events. I can't say more without spoiling it, but this is another one whose trailer kind of tells you exactly what you're going to get. So watch it and then make the decision. I sure enjoyed the hell out of this film.

acting: Henry Rollins is great as a simple anti-hero with unique motivations. Kate Greenhouse is a waitress who likes him, and gets drawn into the chaos. Jordan Todosey is the illegitimate daughter who he only now learns about. Steven Ogg is a gangster with a weird way of saying things. Booboo Stewart is a hospital worker who helps Jack with certain supplies.

final word: Good, grisly fun.
