Hercules

"Are you only the legend, or are you truth behind the legend?" - Amphiaraus

release year: 2014
genre: action/adventure
viewing setting: hotel room 6/15/21 and home Bluray 11/16/14

synopsis: Wandering hero Hercules agrees to help a kingdom in need.

impressions: Fairly entertaining. I liked the battle, and the hints of mythology - but those same hints didn't always live up to their promise. I can't explain without spoiling some things, so I won't. Hercules not only faces his past, but also has a change of heart and acts more like a hero than a mercenary.

acting: Dwayne Johnson turns in another good performance; he has natural charisma and of course the physique to pull this role off. His companions are Ian McShane as a doomed prophet, Rufus Sewell as a knife-throwing right-hand man, Ingrid Bolso Berdal as an amazon archer, and Reece Ritchie as a young storyteller. His enemies are Joseph Fiennes and John Hurt as kings, and Peter Mullan as a general.

final word: Action-packed, fantasy-short take on the mythological hero.
