synopsis: Two tough guys who hate each other must team up to save the world from a super-virus.

impressions: Overall it was pretty good, with plenty of action and humor as well as some direct and indirect references to other movies. The first part was a lot of bickering, the second part was a lot of action, and the third part featured a bunch of Samoans fighting the bad guys, which was an odd thing. While this had some characters and references from the main Fast and Furious franchise, it was its own thing too.

acting: Dwayne Johnson is the big strong one, Jason Statham is the wily skilled one. Together, they can carry a movie, as I suspected would be the case. Idris Elba is a technology-enhanced bad guy. Vanessa Kirby is Shaw's bad-ass sister. Helen Mirren is their bad-ass mother. Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Hart have long cameos as helpful friends.

final word: This was a great thrill ride, with some inane or silly moments..
