"Whatever you're thinking...rethink it." - Broker
release year: 2013
genre: action/drama
viewing setting: home Bluray 7/9/25
synopsis: A retired DEA agent who's moved to a small Louisiana town with his daughter wastes no time running afoul of the local drug gang.
impressions: It all started with his young daughter kicking a bully's ass...but that kid's parents had ties to the local crime boss, and so things spiral from there in a neverending string of fights and violence. Statham was off his game in this one - he didn't fully think things through, because if he had, he'd have realized that the bad guys weren't going to let things go. Honestly, he's lucky they didn't kill his daughter and burn his house down while he was wasting time figuring things out. While this had more action than most movies, I found it to be almost sub-par for what it was.
acting: Jason Statham does what he does, but more slowly and less efficiently this time. James Franco is local drug boss "Gator" and Kate Bosworth is his addict sister who has a temper. Frank Grillo is the leader of the bikers who are eventually sent to deal with Statham. Winona Ryder is an easily-manipulated ex-biker-chick.
final word: Somewhat heavy on the drama, and a little disappointing given that it's a Jason Statham action movie.
