Iron Man 2

"xxxxxxxxxxx"   - yyyyyyy

release year: 2010
genre: superhero action
viewing setting: home Bluray, 12/8/13

synopsis: As Tony Stark faces his own mortality, an enemy from his father's past shows up wanting revenge.

impressions: Pretty damn good show. It's filled with action and multiple opponents, plus deals with real-life types of problems too. Of course, there's plenty of humor too (the brief scene where a kid in an Iron Man mask faces off against one of the robotic drones was great.) There are also significant tie-ins here to the (then) upcoming Avengers movie.

acting: Robert Downey Jr. is again great as the flippant yet brilliant inventor/hero. Mickey Rourke is a tattooed, mumbling Russian bad guy. Gwyneth Paltrow is Stark's aide who can't keep up with his mistakes and random actions. Don Cheadle is his friend who ends up donning a second suit of armor. Sam Rockwell is a competing arms manufacturer who does some dumb things. Scarlet Johansson debuts as a super-agent (she would have a co-starring role in The Avengers a couple of year later.) Samuel L. Jackson has a brief but significant role as Nick Fury. Garry Shandling is a senator who wants Stark to turn over the armor to the government. Clark Gregg is another senior S.H.I.E.L.D. agent.

final word: Outstanding superhero film, and worthy sequel.
