Jason and the Argonauts

release year: 1963
genre: fantasy
viewing setting: home VHS, 7/28/98
what I expected: old "epic" questing
what I got: dated fantasy with the simplest of plots

synopsis: Young adventurer Jason gathers great heroes and athletes on a great ship and goes on a great quest.

impressions: The plot just zipped along - often, the movie cut to a new scene with little explanation as to how a previous sutuation was resolved. However, this is not a movie to see for plot. It had some good special effects that were probably awesome in 1963. Kudos to Ray Harryhausen.

acting: Nothing remarkable, though no one did a bad job.

final word: Neat at times, boring at others - perhaps best for kids.

rating: C
