Jerry and Marge Go Large
release year: 2022
genre: drama/comedy
viewing setting: home streaming 1/10/25
synopsis: Forced into retirement, a guy finds a new hobby along with his wife: beating the local lottery.
impressions: This was fun. It's basically the story of an older guy who wasn't really ready to retire yet, finds something else to do, and dives into it full speed ahead. His wife needed something to do herself, and joins him. And they end up helping their little town make a lot of money and revitalize itself...despite the efforts of a jackass college student from Harvard who eventually finds the same loophole in the system.
acting: Bryan Cranston is the retiree who's good at math but bad with people, but ultimately just wants to help everyone. Annette Bening is his wife, who's looking for some excitement and finds it with their scheme. Rainn Wilson is a convenience store owner who benefits from being the one to sell them thousands of tickets every few weeks. Larry Wilmore is their dubious but helpful banker. Ann Harada is a funny older woman who ends up investing in the plan. Uly Schlesinger is an unlikeable Harvard kid who also figures out that this particular lottery can be beaten.
final word: Entertaining feel-good movie based on a true story.
