The Outlaw Josey Wales

release year: 1975
genre: action
viewing setting: home DVD, 3/4/01
what I expected: couldn't remember
what I got: a great overall Western

synopsis: Missouri farmer Josey Wales loses his family and home to murdering Union soldiers, and becomes a killing machine.

impressions: Good violent Western that also had other elements, enough so to make it appeal to a wider audience. There was a good background of Civil War circumstances, a variety of supporting characters, some great lines...very good package.

quotable: "Too bad we ain't got time to bury them fellas, huh?"
"To hell with them fellas. Buzzards gotta eat, same as worms."

acting: This is Clint Eastwood's movie all the way. Though it's never really explained how he went from farmer to lethal gunfighter, I found that I didn't really care. Classic story element: tobacco-spitting on various people and critters.

final word: A must-see for all Western fans.

rating: B
