Jurassic World: Dominion

"We're racing toward the extinction of our species. We not only lack dominion over nature, we're subordinate to it." - Ian Malcolm

release year: 2022
genre: sci-fi/action
viewing setting: theater 7/1/22

synopsis: In this new world where dinosaurs are part of the fauna and exist in parallel with people, new threats arise and must be dealt with.

impressions: Everything actually would have been fine if not for the locusts. Because of them, all of the old and new characters end up in the same place at the same time - a remote area within the mountains of Italy, where dinosaurs can have a sanctuary of their own. Of course, it's not that simple. This had a lot of nods to previous films in the series, and also plenty of action and chases and dinosaur mayhem. It felt like a much-needed final chapter and resolution to the series.

acting: This is truly a unification of the groups from the first three movies and then the fourth and fifth. Sam Neill, Laura Dern, and Jeff Goldblum reprise their roles from the earlier movies, and all do great jobs. From the newer movies, we have Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard, plus Isabella Sermon as the clone-kid from the last one. A few others return in minor roles: Omar Sy, BD Wong, Daniella Pineda, Justice Smith. For new characters, there are DeWanda Wise as a tough pilot who's often the voice of reason (and action), Mamoudou Athie as the head of communications at the new place, and Campbell Scott as the evil corporate CEO/madman.

final word: The end - I hope - and if so, it's a thrilling and entertaining last entry in this almost-30-year-old series..
