Jurassic World: Rebirth
release year: 2025
genre: sci-fi/action
viewing setting: theater 7/10/25
synopsis: Yet again, reluctant people are convinced to return to one of the dinosaur-inhabited islands in search of something.
impressions: It was okay but lacked the grand scope of some of the previous adventures. Basically they had to get blood samples from three different, specific dinosaurs and along the way they rescue a family and deal with internal strife. And that family, by the way was often stupid; after encountering a sleeping T-Rex, one of them drags a heavy object right past it while another PLAYS WITH A BABY DINOSAUR AND TALKS TO IT while her big sister is ten feet from the sleeping monster. For fuck's sake. Anyway, corporate greed is once again a factor...and the dinosaurs don't care about money, they just want to eat as many of these people as possible. The big bad one this time was a "D-Rex" which was a mutated T-Rex with a huge globular head. This is what happens when you want to top previous films' big bad ones but are out of ideas.
acting: Scarlet Johansson is a mercenary who turns out to have a heart. Mahershala Ali is her old friend who gets involved. Rupert Friend is the conniving businessman. Jonathan Bailey is the male hero, who ends up being more adventurous than he knew he could be. Manuel Garcia-Rulfo is the father of the family the team encounters. David Iacono is the lazy, clueless boyfriend of his eldest daughter. Ed Skrein yet again plays an unpleasant character, this time a mercenary soldier who doesn't really respect the dinosaurs.
final word: Serviceable dinosaur adventure, but (as I said after the last one) they are out of fresh material.
