Justice League

Alfred: "I don't recognize this world."
Batman: "I don't have to recognize it...I just have to save it."

release year: 2017
genre: superhero action
viewing setting: home Bluray 3/15/18

synopsis: An otherworldly threat forces various individual superheroes to join together.

impressions: This wasn't that bad. I say that because a lot of people panned it for one reason or another; even the producers were unhappy (apparently making $658 million on a $300 million budget isn't enough anymore.) Whatever. This wasn't as grim as the last movie in the series, and had a lot more action and humor. It did the jobs that needed to get done: introduce the newer heroes, bring everyone together as a team, and have some great super-powered battle scenes. My only gripe is that they picked some random villain; an established one would have made more sense.

acting: Ben Affleck's Batman is still weary and gruff, but at least has more substantial lines this time. Gal Gadot does a great job as Wonder Woman, who may actually be the leader for now. Henry Cavill is Superman, who is dead when this starts and has some issues to work through once they bring him back to life. Ezra Miller is the Flash, who brings great comic relief to the adventure. Jason Momoa is the aquatic warrior-king Aquaman, who's fairly brooding at first and then opens up with some humorous lines and actions. Ray Fisher is Cyborg, who's struggling with being mostly not human (and whose powers seem written to advance the plot or solve problems, more than once.) Jeremy Irons is Batman's helper, Alfred, and plays an important role. Amy Adams is Superman's girlfriend and a reporter. Diane Lane is his mother. Connie Nielsen is Wonder Woman's mother. JK Simmons is the police commissioner who works with Batman.

final word: A fine (and crucial) entry into DC's superhero universe; it will still be tough for them to catch up, but they're now in better shape than they were.
