Kekkon Dekinai Otoko

release year: 2006
genre: Japanese drama
viewing setting: home streaming 5/21-29/22

synopsis: This drama follows the life, challenges, and interactions of a single 40-year-old man who is very, very set in his ways.

impressions: I didn't know what to expect, but this was interesting and funny. The main character thinks what he wants, does what he wants, and outside of work has no use whatsoever for other human beings. That changes as he begins to have minor medical issues that cause him to make a number of acquaintances and begin to change.

acting: Hiroshi Abe is the main character, who's compulsively bound by his routines and patterns and ideas to the point of offending other people without meaning to. Yui Natsukawa is the doctor who must deal with him when he gets sick. Ryoko Kuninaka is his young neighbor, who doesn't understand him at all. Takashi Tsukamoto is his young helper at work, and Reiko Takashima is another co-worker; both try often to help their boss, usually without success.

final word: Entertaining Japanese drama series.
