Kickboxer

release year: 1989
genre: martial arts
viewing setting: home laserdisc, 11/9/97
what I expected: Van Dammage
what I got: a tough kickboxing movie

synopsis: After his older brother is crippled by a mean kickboxer, young Kurt goes from unskilled to expert as he trains for revenge.

impressions: This was one of Van Damme's earliest, and best. It had good training and fighting moments, with a minimal amount of slow crap to bog things down. One complaint: the evil kickboxer, Tong Po, should have died for all the things he did.

acting: Insignificant in a movie of this type.

final word: Entertaining, as martial arts films go.

rating: C
