Kill Bill, vol 1

"I am finished doing what I swore an oath to God 28 years ago to never do again. I've created..."something that kills people." And in that purpose, I was a success. I've done this because, philosophically, I am sympathetic to your aim. I can tell you with no ego, this is my finest sword. If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will be cut."   - Hattori Hanzo

release year: 2003
genre: action/adventure
viewing setting: home Bluray 4/24/18 and 4/3/16 and 7/3/15 and home DVD, 12/25/13 and 2/26/12 and 10/5/06 and theater, 10/23/03

synopsis: A member of an elite assassin team is betrayed and left for dead...but she lives, and after a 4-year coma, she wakes up and seeks total revenge on everyone involved.

impressions: The style here is weird, much like Pulp Fiction - it has non-linear events and scenes out of order, and the average viewer will get confused. Also, there are plenty of cool lines, jokes, bad guys and girls...and tons of blood and violence. I'll say no more.

things to watch for: The swordfight scene that begins around 1:13:37. Without a doubt. Trust me on this.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A hot psychotic schoolgirl who fights with a spiked ball-and-chain.

acting: Uma Thurman does a good job as a dangerous woman hell-bent on revenge. Sonny Chiba is impressive as a sword master/maker. Lucy Liu and her entire entourage did a great job as villains.

final word: Highly entertaining - and I love it when people leave a movie because it's not what they expected because they didn't take the time to learn about the movie before they paid to get in.
