The Langoliers

release year: 1995
genre: sci-fi/drama
viewing setting: home DVD, 6/5/03

synopsis: A dozen people who were napping on a flight wake up to find that everyone else on the plane has vanished...and that's just the tip of the iceberg.

impressions: Pretty good character-driven (mostly) spooky drama based on a novella by Stephen King. I don't want to spoil the plot for you, but suffice it to say that there's a new twist on a standard sci-fi plotline.

things to watch for: At the Bangor airport when they're trying to figure out what the crunching sound is.

something this movie has that no other movie has: time-and-space-devouring monsters

acting: In a movie like this, there are only a few actors, and that gives them more room to do better jobs. Of note were the pilot, the British guy, the mystery writer, and the stockbroker.

final word: Good suspenseful drama with a slight sci-fi/horror twist.
