Life

release year: 1999
genre: comedy
viewing setting: theater, 4/30/99
what I expected: I had no idea
what I got: tough comedy

synopsis: In the 1920s, two young black men get framed and put in jail for life. This is the story of their decades of incarceration.

impressions: It really wasn't that funny, kind of depressing actually. I didn't care for it much. It had funny parts, sad parts, boring parts - and that might have been the problem: this movie never really fit into a single genre, but wasn't strong enough to span multiple ones. I can't say for sure, and although it was watchable, it just never clicked with me.

acting: Eddie Murphy and Martin Lawrence did good jobs, as did the various supporting characters.

final word: Marginally watchable.

rating: C-
