Man-Thing

release year: 2005
genre: horror/drama
viewing setting: home DVD, 4/30/06

synopsis: People are disappearing in a remote Louisiana swamp, and the new sheriff has to figure out why.

impressions: This was a decent effort at a low-budget comic book adaption, but the writer and director didn't follow the source material completely. My guess is that they had to make it entertaining and watchable so they tinkered with the story a bit. Still, this has plenty of things going for it: unlikeable villains, decent effects, and especially the authentically creepy swamp setting. I could have done without the tentacles on the monster, but I guess you can't have everything.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A swamp monster with tentacles.

acting: The main sheriff guy was low-key and almost too quiet. The blonde teacher was annoying at times. The main bad guy was well-acted and easy to root against.

final word: Decent swamp horror, worth watching.
