The Mask of Zorro

release year: 1998
genre: swashbuckling action
viewing setting: theater, 7/23/98
what I expected: I wasn't sure
what I got: great entertainment

synopsis: The old Zorro from twenty years ago must train a new Zorro, and together they must save the common people from a vile despot.

impressions: This is the best movie I've seen in the theater this year. It had everything: action, swordfights, romance, humor. It was well-acted, well-directed, well-paced, and consistently entertaining. I was highly pleased.

acting: Top-notch. Anthony Hopkins did a great job, as did Antonio Banderas and Catherine Zeta-Jones. The two main bad guys were also great. I have zero complaints or nitpicks.

final word: Solid entertainment!

rating: B+
