release year: 1986
viewing setting: home Bluray 12/1/18
synopsis: In the wake of a comet, all mechanical/electrical machines take on a life of their own and begin killing humans.
impressions: An odd sci-fi/horror adaptation from the 80s, this had plenty of humor and memorable images, chiefly the homicidal Green Goblin 18-wheeler. A small band of survivors holes up in a truck stop, but some are argumentative or stupid, and not all of them will survive the experience.
acting: Emilio Estevez is the main protagonist, a young ex-con who always seems to do the righ thing. Laura Harrington is the hitchhiker who pairs up with him. Pat Hingle is the owner of the truck stop, and he's a jackass. Yeardley Smith (who voices Bart Simpson on The Simpsons) is half of a young married couple. Holter Graham is the only kid from his Little League team to survive.
final word: Entertaining 80s horror adaptation.
