Mega Scorpions

"If we spray the scorpions with their own venom...it'll eat them from the inside out!" - Collins

release year: 2003
genre: giant monster horror
viewing setting: home streaming 9/3/23

synopsis: Dumped toxic waste + random scorpions = a bigger problem for a small town.

impressions: It was low-budget but actually entertained me more than I thought it would five minutes in. There was quite a bit of human drama, mostly involving the various staff and residents of a halfway house and the town's government. A few things of note: scorp-vision (a series of fuzzy identical hexagonal views)...giant scorpions disabling phone lines, TV lines, power lines...minimal gore and blood...a total bonus at the end. Another thought: when you use the word "mega", especially in a monster movie's title, you need to be thinking on the level of buildings and such. Six feet long is not "mega" in my book.

body count: 10

acting: Nicolas Read is the main guy, who was falsely accused of murder in the past. Marcella Laasch is the doctor who runs the halfway house. Sarah Megan White is her younger sister. Sewell Whitney is a medical examiner who provides most of the humor. John Henry Richardson is the evil mayor. Stephen O'Mahoney is the sheriff.

final word: Decent monster movie with some subplots and clever humor.
