Hunter: "She doesn't fit in either!"
Kevin: "Why can't we all just not fit in together?"

release year: 2022
genre: comedy/drama
viewing setting: home streaming 1/30/25

synopsis: Two metal-head high school students strive (with inspiration from the music they love) to escape from mediocrity.

impressions: While the one character sometimes ventured into territory that would make me worry about what he might one day do, all in all this was a good comedy about friends with a musical dream and talent they have yet to fully harness. They don't fit in and that leads to all kinds of challenges, but in the end things mostly work out. There are quite a few references to classic songs of the genre, too.

acting: Jaeden Martell is the quiet kid who tends to follow his friend's lead, even when it leads to idiocy (or nowhere.) Adrian Greensmith is the die-hard metal fan and friend who doesn't really understand normal people, or care about them. Brett Gelman is his dad, who doesn't understand his son (or even try to.) Isis Hainsworth is an odd girl who ends up being a hell of a musician. Joe Manganiello is a doctor who used to do something different for a living.

final word: Entertaining high school comedy with a metal-music flavor.
