Meth Gator
"Finding a meth super lab, taking down a meth-eating gator...that's a tall order." - sheriff
release year: 2023
genre: monster mayhem
viewing setting: home streaming 10/22/25
synopsis: Once a large alligator gets an accidental taste of drugs, it goes berserk (and starts growing.)
impressions: I'll say it right now: this was one of the best Asylum monster movies I've ever seen. The cinematography was good, they made the best of a limited number of locations and it still looked fairly realistic, the acting was pretty good, and it just didn't look and feel as cheesy as most of their films. This alligator did all kinds of crazy things once it got a taste of the meth, including bursting up out of the lake, walking brazenly into a neighborhood, smashing through a building's wall, galloping along, plucking prey off of a zip line, rearing up on two legs for one kill, opening the hatch to an underground place, surviving an RPG right down the throat so it can make the town's parade later on. Yes. I think this movie might have presented one solution to the problem of drugs and drug dealers.
body count: 11
acting: LaRonn Marzett is the main hero, and brings a sense of normal-guy-ness to the role. Ray Acevedo is his friend who has a lot of experience with alligators. Vanesa Tamayo is a tough chick who helps them out. Wade Hunt Williams is her stepdad, who runs a barbeque restaurant/bar/hotel and is also a somewhat crazy ex-soldier. Bruce Peoples is the calm, sensible sheriff. Patrick Labyorteaux is the mayor, who stereotypically refuses to see the true scope of the problem even as more people get eaten.
final word: Entertaining and surprisingly well-made giant alligator fare.
