MLB: All-Century Team

release year: 1999
genre: sports documentary
viewing setting: home DVD, 8/24/14

synopsis: This documentary showcases 30 of the best players to ever play the game of baseball.

impressions: So of course it's impossible to narrow down any list like this, and it probably didn't help that after a panel of experts came up with the original 100 players, the FANS got to vote it down to the 30 best. This introduces ignorance into the equation, and also weighs against older players who have been forgotten by, or were never known to, today's fan base. But...one thing's for sure, the final 30 (or really any of the semi-final 100) were all great players, and watching video and pictures of them while hearing about their accomplishments is a great time for any fan of the game. On a sad note, I have to say that many of the older players shown or interviewed in this 1999 production have passed away in the 15 years since, which was haunting.

acting: n/a, but the narration was strong

final word: Pretty good, though 30 all-time best players isn't really enough; for the entire list of 100 there's a short video in the "Special Features" section..
