My Bloody Valentine
release year: 1981
genre: horror
viewing setting: home DVD, 12/27/15 and 11/21/04
synopsis: 20 years ago, a trapped miner went insane, and then warned the town never to hold another Valentine's Day party; now, they're having one, and the killings begin.
impressions: This is a great slasher movie. Though it's obviously themed around a holiday, it's really a mine-oriented film. There are backgrounds behind the main characters, numerous suspects, and a twist ending. There's also the dark, dirty mine setting, which is very effective.
body count: 11
things to watch for: Murder methods: pickaxe, drowning in boiling water, nailgun to the head, double impalement.
something this movie has that no other movie has: A heart boiling in the pot with the hotdogs.
acting: The two male leads did good jobs as former friends fighting over a girl. The girl was okay, by far the only non-helpless female in this film. The chunky miner was funny. The goofball miner was just annoying.
final word: Good, tight slasher movie mostly set in a mine, worth seeing.
