The Naked Gun

"Jane, since I've met you, I've noticed things that I never knew were there before...birds singing...dew glistening on a newly formed leaf...stoplights." - Lt. Frank Drebin

release year: 1988
genre: police comedy
viewing setting: home Bluray 9/13/20

synopsis: Lieutenant Frank Drebin must foil a plot to assassinate the visiting Queen of England.

impressions: This movie continued in the tradition of Airplane! and Police Squad with constant jokes and inane situations. There was a long, drawn-out baseball bit near the end that I found non-humorous, but for the most part, the rest of the movie generated fairly regular chuckles or laughs.

acting: Leslie Nielsen is the always-serious central character. The goofy George Kennedy is his boss, who often joins him in the funny conversations. O.J. Simpson has an early film role as an unlucky officer. Priscilla Presley is the love interest. Ricardo Montalban is the villain.

final word: Funny, though a bit dated.
