A Nightmare on Elm Street part 5: The Dream Child
release year: 1989genre: horrorviewing setting: home DVD, 10/13/99what I expected: not muchwhat I got: permanent deletion of 97 minutes of my life, that I can never hope to get back
synopsis: Freddy gets back at the last movie's sole survivor through her unborn baby's dreams. No, I'm not making this up.
impressions: It had the SAME OLD PROBLEMS: stupid plot, characters who learned nothing from the previous movies, adults who acted like children, lack of female nudity, extremely loud music to "scare" the viewer. I mean, look at how Freddy got resurrected this time around: the girl's unborn baby had a dream and BAM, Freddy's back! Give me a fucking break. This degree of stupidity was excessive even for a bad horror movie. In fact, we found outselves constantly checking the elapsed vs remaining time of the movie to see how much longer we had to suffer.
acting: Still more credit to Robert Englund, who continued to ham it up. Forget the rest. I did like the swimmer girl, but that was just because I wanted to see her get naked (which, by the way, didn't happen.)
the good: Wisecracks by Freddy, interesting gore effects.
the bad: Idiotic inconsistent plot, quiet-to-loud sound effects, lack of nudity.
most entertaining moment: Baby Freddy is born and runs around meancing someone.
final word: I don't know how many more of these I can watch. I like to think I'm suffering for the good of the human race, i.e. if I can make you understand how bad these movies are, my sacrifice won't have been in vain.
