Night of the Creeps

release year: 1985
genre: horror/sci-fi semi-spoof
viewing setting: home DVD, 12/21/09

synopsis: Weird alien slugs land on Earth and possess human bodies, animating them (even if they're dead) and producing a mixture of many horror sub-genres.

impressions: Very entertaining. This is a blend of various things: alien invasion, living dead, fraternity'sorority/college comedy, and even a bit of slasher thrown in. There's a backstory (with flashbacks) to 1959, plenty of creepy moments, and some gore. This is a great B-level horror classic.

something this movie has that no other movie has: A guy's head exploding and a bunch of slugs coming out.

acting: Tom Atkins is the cop who was there in 1959 and has to re-live some things in 1985. Jason Lively is the dorky main hero. Jill Whitlow is the sorority girl who takes a liking to him.

final word: Entertaining semi-serious horror.
