The Perfect Storm
release year: 2000genre: drama/actionviewing setting: theater, 7/1/2000what I expected: no ideawhat I got: seaborne mayhem
synopsis: Swordfishing boat meets unique and terrible storm. Based on a true story.
impressions: Some may complain about the plot and the characters, but this movie delivers what it was intended to: absolutely breathtaking, terrifying ocean storms that are far more powerful than anything ever touched by the hand of man. Before seeing this movie, I had no idea at all how violent and terrible storms can be when you're on a boat. Now, it's drilled into my head. Also of note: fairly impressive rescues and rescue attempts of stupid people who shouldn't have been out in the storm in the first place.
acting: Pretty good all around. George Clooney's captain seemed a little dumb at times, but he was also desperate (this was set up early in the movie.)
final word: A different kind of sea disaster movie, worth seeing.
