Piranhaconda

   "We're not dealing with snakes."
"Something much worse. It's like an unholy union between a piranha and an anaconda."
   "You mean a piranhaconda."
"I can't believe you just said that."

release year: 2012
genre: giant monster horror/action/comedy
viewing setting: home DVD, 9/11/21

synopsis: Various parties somewhere in Hawaii are menaced by a huge mutated creature.

impressions: Piranhaconda. It just rolls off the tongue, doesn't it? I was compelled to watch this after suffering through Virus Shark right before...it was like when you try some horrible liquor and then you need to chase it with something better, just to get the taste out of your mouth. Yes. This one didn't disappoint; when the monster got someone, that person was dead, without a doubt. I will note that the piranhaconda never crushed anyone to death as its anaconda half might have wanted it to. Other noteworthy elements here: an actual theme song, which is surprisingly catchy...a movie being filmed as part of the plot...kidnappers...locations and footage recycled from other Roger Corman movies...a reference/tribute to Anaconda 2...tons of cute women, almost all of whom end up getting eaten...the surprise of there actually being TWO giant piranhacondas...the goofiest kidnapper monster mask ever...the piranhaconda egg farm...music playing during the chase...the piranhaconda hauling ass through the field...use of the egg idea from Jurassic Park 3...a lot of funny lines. All in all, this was pretty damn fun and entertaining.

confirmed piranhaconda kills: 23, every single one of them decisive...plus a helicopter

other non-piranhaconda kills: 4

acting: Rib Hillis returns as a main protagonnist, this time a stuntman. Terri Ivens is the main woman. Michael Swan is the rather buff leader of the kidnappers. Michael Madsen sleepwalks through his role as a professor with shady intentions. Rachel Hunter has a brief appearance as one of the kidnappers.

final word: Well-done and a lot of silly fun. I'd watch it again sometime.
