impressions: This is an adaptation of a famous book, and it's very entertaining and has stood the test of time.  It's equal parts action, comedy, and drama, with an ensemble cast and no slow moments.
acting: Cary Elwes is the main swashbuckling hero.  Mandy Patinkin is a Spanish swordsman seeking revenge.  Andre the Giant is a benevolent giant.  Robin Wright is the princess.  Chris Sarandon is the evil prince.  Christopher Guest is his right-hand man.  Billy Crystal and Carol Kane are an ancient couple with magical powers.
final word: Good fairy tale for all ages, well worth seeing.
