release year:1998 genre:horror viewing setting:theater, 12/13/98 what I expected:the same old shit what I got:a 1990s remake of a 1950s classic
synopsis:Weird things are afoot at the Bates Motel.
impressions:It's been a long time since I saw the original Psycho. I didn't expect much from this one, but to be honest, it was thoroughly entertaining. Essentially a scene-for-scene remake, it was newer, but not different. By today's horror movie "standards", the original was pretty tame - only two murders. This one is, of course, identical in that respect. My two hours wasn't wasted, but I will not need to see this again.
acting:William Macy, as Inspector Arbogast, seemed to do a better job than anyone else.
final word:Worth seeing, but it's a rerun.
