Pumpkinhead

release year: 1988
genre: horror
viewing setting: home DVD, 4/18/11 and 1/24/03

synopsis: In the name of revenge against city folks who accidentally killed his son, a backwoods man summons a demon.

impressions: Good basic horror, without big budget, CGI, and all that crap. I LIKE movies like this, because they are simple yet effective. We don't see much of the demon until late, which keeps the suspense up. There's a very clear plot which doesn't require any thinking or questions. If anything, I was mad at this movie because of the way that most of the teens let the bully dominate them.

acting: Lance Henriksen did a good job as a simple man who went from loving father to insane revenge-seeker, and then back to normal again. The lady who played the old witch was creepy. The teens from the city did decent jobs, nothing outstanding.

final word: Good horror movie that you've probably never heard of.
