Push

release year: 2009
genre: sci-fi action
viewing setting: home DVD, 7/23/09

synopsis: People with various mental powers fight for/against the government and each other.

impressions: Good premise, confusing implementation. The true allegiances and motivations of most characters remain in doubt and you have to pay attention to keep up with what's going on. Big disappointment: the 1990s/2000s action-film technique of suddenly cranking up loud thrashing music during action scenes. This is just getting annoying. On the plus side, it was neat to see the different kinds of empowered people, e.g. movers (telekinesis), watchers (precognition), pushers (mind control), stitchers (healing/damage), and so on.

something this movie has that no other movie has: .

acting: Chris Evans is the young good guy, and Dakota Fanning is a girl with whom his fate is linked. Camilla Belle is his ex, who has her own secrets. Djimon Mounsou is the main bad guy.

final word: Interesting, but also confusing and irritating.
