Queer Eye season 6

release year: 2021
genre: TV reality show (10 episodes)
viewing setting: home streaming 1/1-3/2022

synopsis: Five makeover experts, each with a specific area of expertise, work together to help people badly in need of new looks or escape from their ruts in life.

impressions: More of the same, like the previous. I've gone from saying "this isn't something I'd normally watch" to "my wife and I watch and enjoy this regularly." It's not only full of genuine positivity and the desire to help others, but also a ton of style and fashion tips that everyone (guys or girls, gay or straight) can use. I was consistently entertained and found it to be worth watching. The people helped in this season: a grandmother who wears short shorts and teaches dance lessons, a transgender athlete, a cattle-ranching cowboy, a high school prom committee, a widower who can't move on, a doctor who runs a clinic for Covid testing/vaccinations, an animal rescuer who has no personal time, an organizer of services for the homeless, a bakery owner, and a rapper who's lost his inspiration. This season takes plane in and around Austin, Texas and spans the 2020+ pandemic.

acting: There are five members of this cast, and each has a particular area of expertise (food, fashion, culture/relationships, design, grooming.) They're all interesting, knowledgable, and helpful; I did notice that in this season, there was 1) use of actual profanity, and 2) indirect political statements made via choice of shirts by one of the guys. Some of those who they help are in real need of a kick in the ass to get out of whatever funk they've been in; watching that happen over the course of 45 minutes is entertaining, enlightening, and sometimes amazing.

final word: Entertaining, fun, and practical; it really showcases some great and unique people.
