Queer Eye season 8

release year: 2024
genre: TV reality show (6 episodes)
viewing setting: home streaming 2/14-17/24

synopsis: Five makeover experts, each with a specific area of expertise, work together to help people badly in need of new looks or motivation to escape from whatever ruts they have in their lives.

impressions: More of the same, like all previous seasons. The guys continue to find and help people who (to be blunt) usually need a kick in the ass and some tips. This season again takes place in New Orleans; maybe both of those seasons were actually parts of one larger effort? People helped in this season:
a country guy who's been married to a city gal for almost forty years, but they've grown apart
a guy who's got only three focii in life: KISS fandom, his pet reptiles, and caring for his disabled brother
a veteran (and very talented, and award-winning) street musician who needs to plan for the next phase of her life
a deaf coach and athletics director at a school for the deaf
an ex-nun and social justice lawyer who wants to learn how to have relationships at almost forty years of age
a Vietnamese chef who has some family issues and wants to show her customers her ability to cook more authentic food

acting: There are five members of this cast, and each has a particular area of expertise (food, fashion, culture/relationships, design, grooming.) This season was completely lacking in blatant or subtle political commentary, which was nice.

final word: Entertaining, fun, and practical; it really showcases some great and unique people as well as how a little help can do a long way in their lives.
