Raising Arizona

release year: 1987
genre: comedy
viewing setting: home laserdisc, 9/21/98
what I expected: no idea
what I got: quirky comedy

synopsis: An ex-con and his ex-cop wife steal one of five babies, and must deal with all kinds of problems to keep the imp.

impressions: It was generally entertaining, with several really funny scenes. It was also not meant to be taken too seriously, as is usually the case with Coen brothers films (another good one is Fargo.)

acting: Nicholas Cage did a great job as a confused, slow-witted guy who gets in over his head. Holly Hunter played along, though her role was rather irritating. Randall "Tex" Cobb also had a memorable role as the biker from hell.

final word: Good, odd comedy.

rating: C
