Rat Race

release year: 2001
genre: comedy
viewing setting: home streaming 11/5/22

synopsis: A bunch of random people are drawn into a race for two million dollars.

impressions: Pretty funny. The variety of characters - competitors, organizers, and bystanders - was vast, and there was a wealth of comedic moments here. Some of the events are simply insane, and it's a lot of fun to watch it all unfold.

acting: Breckin Meyer is the most level-headed of the competitors. Amy Smart is a girl who he gets involved with along the way. Cuba Gooding Jr is a guy who doesn't always think things through. Seth Green and Vince Vieluf are some often-dumb brothers. Lanei Chapman and Whoopi Goldberg are a recently-reunited daughter/mother team. Jon Lovita is the patriarch of a family on vacation. Rowan Atkinson is a bumbling foreigner. John Cleese is the organizer of the contest. The dinosaur-DNA thief from Jurassic Park has a minor role too.

final word: Entertaining crazy comedy.
