Reacher, season 2

O'Donnell: "Why'd you have to hit him so hard?"
Reacher "I don't hit soft."

release year: 2023
genre: action/drama (8 episodes)
viewing setting: home streaming 12/15/23 through 1/19/24, as they were released by Amazon

synopsis: Ex-military cop Reacher stops his drifting to rejoin some of his old squad, so they can figure out who's been killing other members.

impressions: Like the first season, this was just great. The hero rights wrongs and is outside the law, which (no matter what some people say) is sometimes the only way to get things done. In the first five minutes of the first episode, he helps a carjacking victim, with effectively violent results. And then just walks off. Such is the way of Reacher. Naturally, when his old teammates/friends start turning up dead, he resolves to not only solve the crime, but also to solve the problem of the bad guys...permanently. This season's flashbacks show how Reacher formed the old unit and got them all to work together, which is relevant to the current plotline. There was plenty of fighting (gunplay as well as hand-to-hand) this season, although a lot of it was at night or in dark settings, and thus hard to follow.

acting: Alan Ritchson has done it; he's got the physicality and the attitude of the character down. Maria Sten returns as the former teammate with whom Reacher is closest, and who helps tackle the mystery. Shaun Sipos and Serinda Swan are both good as two other former teammates. Ferdinand Kingsley is a suave terrorist/assassin. Robert Patrick is the evil main bad guy. Lochlyn Munro is the head of security at a casino.

final word: If you like mystery-solving mixed with action, you will probably like this. If you like the book series, you will definitely like this. I know I did, and I really hope that many more of the books can be adapted with this cast and crew.
