Reacher, season 3

"You know my rule: do it once, do it right."    - General Garber

release year: 2025
genre: action/drama (8 episodes)
viewing setting: home streaming 2/20/25 through 3/27/25, as they were released by Amazon

synopsis: Ex-military cop Reacher is inserted into the staff of a businessman suspected of criminal activity, but also has his own score to settle with the guy's business associate.

impressions: Like the first two seasons, this was outstanding and great fun for me to watch. The series has captured the protagonist's combination of physical might and detective abilities. This time around, Reacher has spotted someone who he (thought he) deservingly killed in the past but who's obviously still around, and to get at the guy he agrees to go undercover and help the government. Of course, nothing's as simple as it seems, and more than one person has to think fast or end up dead (and some people end up dead anyway.) My sole criticism with this season: one of the big anticipated showdowns at the end takes place largely in dark settings where it's difficult to tell what's happening. Did no one realize this in the editing room or some other review point?

acting: Alan Ritchson continues to nail this role; aside from his size and presence, he projects the attitude of the character from the books. Sonya Cassidy (along with her inconsistent northern accent) is the head DEA agent for the operation. Anthony Michael Hall is the businessman who has something else going on. Johnny Berchtold is his son, who's just been beaten down by all of this. Brian Tee is the ruthless bad guy who Reacher's actually after. Olivier Richters, at 7'2", is the hulking evil henchman who Reacher must eventually deal with.

final word: I'll clarify it again: if you like mystery-solving mixed with action, you will probably like this series. If you like the books, you will definitely like this series. I know I did, and I really hope that many more of the books can be adapted with this actor and production team.
