The Chronicles of Riddick

release year: 2004
genre: sci-fi/action
viewing setting: home DVD, 7/3/12

synopsis: Riddick gets a chance to fulfill the prophecy that says he'll kill the Lord Marshal of the Necromongers.

impressions: So Riddick is flushed out of hiding by bounty hunters (who he demolishes) and comes up against these weird changed Necromonger people (who he demolishes) then makes his way to a prison planet and its inmates and guards (who he demolishes) before returning to face the rulers of the Necromongers (who he demolishes.) It's entertaining, don't get me wrong, but like many unusual sci-fi visions, it's never fully explained. I was able to put that aside as I watched Riddick fight (and sometimes think) his way through all sorts of enemies.

acting: Vin Diesel returns as Riddick the antihero. Karl Urban and Thandie Newton are a high-ranking couple within the evil Necromonger ranks. Colm Feore is their king. Keith David has a minor returning role as a holy man, before he's killed.

final word: Strange, but entertaining.
