Runaway Train
release year: 1986genre: action/adventureviewing setting: home DVD, 12/15/98what I expected: something action-packed and entertainingwhat I got: basically disappointed
synopsis: Two convicts escape and stow away aboard a train...whose conductor then dies, making it a runaway train.
impressions: It started off pretty good and then degenerated, becoming aimless and slow (even though the train was going fast.) One character had some interesting facets, but all the others were stupid. Jon Voight talked with a heavy northern accent, Eric Roberts talked with a heavy southern accent, and Rebecca DeMornay simply squeaked out pathetically weak lines.
acting: See above. Jon Voight did well in some parts, but overall, his character was just about as idiotic as the others.
final word: Worth seeing, I guess, but the best part is the beginning, with the prison escape and all that.
rating: C-
