SEAL Team (season 3)

release year: 2019-2020
genre: military drama/action
viewing setting: home streaming 10/10-17/22

synopsis: An elite military unit goes on various counter-terrorism missions around the world.

impressions: It's really more of the same (which is mostly a good thing.) These guys go on missions of all kinds, but also have to deal with their own family and personal issues, as well as (moreso in this season) problems from above. These include bad apples in the government as well as higher-ranking officers who don't seem to really understand what's going on or what's necessary to do the job. But overall, again, this continues to be a good, entertaining representation of what actual DEVGRU missions, operators, planning, etc probably look like.

acting: There are a lot of characters here; I'll mention the main ones who got my attention. David Boreanaz is the team leader, and he's still an asshole the vast majority of the time; this is a man who's in his element when fighting but otherwise just doesn't know how to act or deal with people. Max Thieriot is the young buck who is starting to have doubts about how best to get the job done, and may want to become an officer. A.J. Buckley is the wisecracking Texan with a temper. Neil Brown is the second-in-command who is also beginning to have doubts about whether to remain on the active team. Tim Chiou is new this season as a veteran operator who truly seems intent on stirring up discord; I wouldn't want him on my team. Toni Trucks is the tough and competent logistics/support officer. Jessica Pare is their CIA liaison, who isn't above using and coercing other people to get intel. Judd Lormand is the team's commanding officer, who often smooths things between the tema itself and the people making the big decisions.

final word: Outstanding military action drama, giving regular people a glimpse into the lives of the people who directly and indirectly make the world a safer place.
