SEAL Team (season 7)
release year: 2024 (10 episodes)
genre: military drama/action
viewing setting: home streaming 9/11 - 10/6/24
synopsis: An elite military unit goes on various counter-terrorism missions around the world, and also deals with problems on the home front.
impressions: This final season focused on the drug trade and China's involvement in it, while a couple of the senior team members approached retirement. Sadly, a certain one of them reverted back to his old ways, unable to shut off war mode and unwilling to listen to people who were trying to help him. This would be entertaining if the show hadn't already flip-flopped back and forth on this several times. It seemed that in the end, he was just an old warrior who didn't know how to stop being one (which naturally causes problems.) There was an uptick in the action in episode 6, and things stayed frantic through the end of the season (and the series.) There was a theme of guilt and redemtion to close out the series, and as with any good finale, this one closes (or opens) doors for all characters.
acting: There's nothing more/new I can say here. All of these characters have developed, and most of that centers/centered around a single core concept: the home lives of special operators are challenging at best, impossible at worst. Beau Knapp debuts as a new member of the team who's a loner, and everyone's struggles to get him to play ball.
final word: Over seven seasons and 114 episodes, this series did a great job of showing what the life and work of elite special operators is like. Bravo.
