Sharknado 3

President: "Can it do that?"
Fin: "Looks like the rules have changed."

release year: 2015
genre: cheesy monster horror/action
viewing setting: home streaming 4/21/22

synopsis: Fin and friends/family must stop a group of sharknadoes in Florida.

impressions: Where can I begin? An opening scene destroys most of Washington DC while featuring various battles in the White House. Then we get (and this is in no particular order) an armored RV, chaos in a Florida theme park, fighter jets, sharks at NASCAR, a space shuttle launch, and outer space. I need to mention that sharks appear in all of these places, and as always, they tend to seek out people (rather than being randomly blown around as one might expect.) The vast majority of these sharks are small, not giant, but they do growl...and at one point, some actually function in the vacuum of space. It's silly, it's stupid, and yet it's entertaining because like Leslie Nielsen, it usually takes itself seriously and plays things with a straight face. And the cameos...wow. There are too many to mention, but notable to me were Chris Jericho as a theme park employee, Lou Ferrigno as a Secret Service agent, and Lorenzo Lamas as a military officer.

acting: Ian Ziering is back as the reluctant hero...even though he's STILL just an ex-surfer/bar-owner who happened to fight off some sharks before and keeps getting really lucky. I mean he can do no wrong - any random theory/idea he comes up with to stop the sharknadoes typically has an approximately 87.439% chance of success. Tara Reid is his now-pregnant wife who has a mini-chainsaw for a hand, and knows how to use it. Bo Derek is here as her mother. Cassie Scerbo is back as a bad-ass shark fighter. Mark Cuban has a brief role as the President, who's not afraid to pick up weapons and fight sharks when push comes to shove. David Hasslehoff is Fin's father, who happens to be a NASA astronaut who never got to fly into space.

final word: Absolutely ludicrous yet quite entertaining in its insanity.
